Rick Sarre is Professor of Law and Criminal Justice at the University of South Australia's School of Commerce. His teaching duties include various aspects of commercial law, criminal justice, and media law. He currently serves as the President of the South Australian Institute of Justice Studies Inc, and is on the national committees of the Australasian Law Teachers Association (ALTA) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology (ANZSOC). He has been an Associate of the Australian Institute of Criminology for over a decade. He also serves on the Victim Support Service (SA) Board. He has been a Visiting Library Fellow, Rutgers University, USA (1990), Visiting Professor, Graceland University, USA (1992, 1997) and Visiting Researcher, Umeå University, Sweden (2004). He is a graduate in law from the University of Adelaide, has an MA in criminology from the University of Toronto, and holds a Doctor of Legal Science degree from the University of Canberra. 

Professor Sarre presented a seminar on 'Key issues for reform in the new era of plural policing' in September 2008 at Griffith University.
