Professor Clive Emsley is in the History Department at the Open University and also co-director of the university’s International Centre for Comparative Criminological Research (ICCCR). He has been President of the International Association for the History of Crime and Criminal Justice and editor of its bi-lingual journal Crime, histoire & sociétés/Crime, history & societies  and has served as a member of the committees of the Police History Society in the UK and the Société Patrimoine de la Gendarmerie in France. A graduate of the universities of York (UK) and Cambridge, he has taught at the universities of Paris and Calgary, and held visiting fellowships at Canterbury (New Zealand), Griffith and ANU.
