Patrick Law is a PhD student working on the Performance Models project and is part of the University of Queensland Social Research Centre/ School of Political Science and International Studies. He has almost 30 years as an Australian Federal Police officer. He is a designated Detective and a qualified Intelligence Analyst. During this period he has worked in Brisbane, Cairns, Sydney, Canberra and Perth. He has carried out duties in the AFP’s Organised Crime, Drug, Fraud and Intelligence Branches. From 1993 to 1996 he was the National Secretary of the Australian Federal Police Association. He has been seconded as the AFP’s representative to the Australian Securities and Investment Commission. From 1999 to 2003 he was attached to the AFP College where he supervised the in-service training of Federal Agents and new recruits for the Perth office. Since 2003 he has been attached to the Brisbane office Intelligence Branch. Here he has supervised long term target development investigations into organised crime and drug importation syndicates in the South-East QLD and Northern NSW area. He is currently in charge of the Protection Intelligence section for the Brisbane Office. As well as specialist AFP training he has an MBA from Edith Cowen University and a Grad Cert in Police Management from Charles Sturt University.
