Abstract: This paper is based on an examination of Victoria Police sub-incident reports and case progress narratives that relate to adult sexual assault between 2004 and 2008. The paper considers the implications of reporting procedures. The paper provides demographic data from these documents and considers the number of complaints withdrawn in the period under review and the circumstances under which these complaints are withdrawn and then processed by police. The paper provides some preliminary comparative data relating to the reporting of sexual assault in the same period where complaints are not withdrawn.
